Welcome to Team Lightning 2004- 2005

August 26, 2004

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the 2004 - 2005 school year at Chief Joseph Middle School. Team Lightning is looking forward to a very meaningful and educational year.  It is our goal to guide each student in taking responsibility for his or her learning and in developing pride in the quality work they do.  It is also our goal to involve parents and guardians in their student's learning throughout the year.  Your interest and support are greatly appreciated by us as well as your student.  Parent support can make the difference.

Our educational approach this year will be as an integrated team.  While each teacher mainly will be responsible for teaching one subject area, we will be integrating the subject matter through unifying concepts and links.  The connections made between subject areas will assist students in applying the knowledge they gain to real life situations.

Some procedures and rules you need to be aware of are outlined here. Please discuss them with your student.  Review the front few pages of the Student Handbook your student was given.  Teachers will be reviewing the Handbook with students.

The supplies your student will need on Team Lightning are:

Students may also wish to have:  scissors, tape, metric ruler, pencil pouch

Before the first morning class, students may visit their lockers.  Lockers will be visited again between Exploratories and morning core classes session.  Students may visit lockers again on the way to lunch and again after lunch before the afternoon core classes session and once again after school.  Students will not be permitted to visit their lockers during classes or at non-designated times between core classes.  They will not be permitted to bring backpacks, book bags and large coats into the classrooms because of crowding and safety issues. Due to our large number of students, some students will be asked to volunteer to share lockers.  It is very important that the things in the lockers be kept at the bare necessities.

We are sending home a survey for you to fill out about your student.  We will read these carefully to better understand your student and devise the best educational approach possible for them.

Thank you for your help and we look forward to meeting you in person soon.

Sincerely,

Team Lightning Teachers:
