Towards Democracy

Georgia stepped on the pass of Democracy since 1991. This pass was very hard and full of problems and troubles. We had civil war, conflicts with separatists, economical problems, social problems, etc. Along with those problems, the biggest problem is that we don't involve our youth very much in the processes which are going on all over the country. In our government there are all the same people we had 15 years ago. Today, many of them called themselves "democrats" but their mentality is not democratic. How can person from communistic period talk and work on the issue as privatizing of the land, civil rights, corruption, free press, etc.? They can't understand what is free press, my right to say almost everything what I do think about the government or about some particular issues.

I can understand that it can't happen that in one year or even couple years, we can change all "old mentality" people into the new generation. They are more professional people in some issues and young people have to learn a lot from them, but I think we have to start this process. More young people have to be involved in the actions which are going on in our state, more of them have to have some important position to protect interests of others. We have a lot of young people now who can challenge some type of problems which we have today in Georgia. Many of this young people finish best European and American colleges and are ready to work. I think if somebody finished Harvard University and wants to do something for the country, we have to put them to the position where they can help our economy, if somebody got degree in the political science we have to help them to show themselves on the political stage of the country, if somebody got good quality education and now ready to participate in some health programs, I think we not just have to allow them to do so, but provide with maximum help and support.

As soon as we will make some serious steps toward accomplishing those goals-to involve more young people in the life of the country, we will make huge steps towards establishing democracy and peace in Georgia. Those young people know what does it mean to have right to speak, to have right to express your ideas, to have right to read free press, to have right to worship, to have right to have sex, to have right of life and to support others. This will bring us to the society which is real democratic and not just calls itself like that. Society of free will, peace and integrity, where everybody is equal and has same chance to be something and to do something for their country. Let's pray that someday we will reach our goals and will live in society like that!
