Burning Iso-Images for FreeBSD 4.x

FreeBSD Project

Burning an iso-image onto new CD-R media can be a problem. The major burners all do it but the problem is figuring out where they do it. I have used a few of the major CD burners to burn CDROMs. This web page was created to document what you have to do to burn an iso image.

Nero 5.5.2.4

Nero is probably as easy as all of them but it doesn't have an option for *.iso and this seems to confuse people. What I have found to be the easy way is select Burn Image from the "File" menu. The choice is then *.nrg but if you select the dropdown arrow, you can choose *.* and then select your iso. The defaults burned an iso that could be used by all of my os'es. For more information see the Nero - FAQ web page.

NTI CD-Maker 2000

I haven't used CD-Maker 2000 to burn an iso but you can find their web page at www.ntius.com. I downloaded a demo but never used it to burn anything but audio CD's.

Prassi's PrimoCD

Prassi's PrimoCD is the basis for a number of CDROM burners. I have a Ricoh that came with PrimoCD. I have a Sony that came with Sony CD Extreme, which is based on the Prassi engine. Prassi has sold the PrimoCD to Veritas where it is marketed as "Veritas My CD and My CD Pro. Burning an iso is really simple from the full_application. There are a number of menu options with full-size CD's. The global image is the second one. One of the alternate choices is *.iso.

Prassi still has the abCD software. For information see www.prassi.com.

Roxio Easy CD  Creator 5.0

This is my old solution to burning CD material. In 2000, the name of Adaptec's Digital Media division was changed to a stand alone company called Roxio. Easy CD Creator will burn an iso from the "File" menu item. To have it look for *.iso's, you have to selected the drop down menu arrow and there you will find a *.iso as an option. See www.roxio.com for more information.

In a recent discussion on FreeBSD-questions, Curtis commented that he was able to double click the iso and burn it if he used the disc-at-once option. I don't download any iso images on to a computer that I have Roxio's EZ-CD installed on; however, this sounds much easier than using the menu options to setup the cd-burn.

Sony CD Extreme

The Sony CD Extreme is based on the Prassi engine and you have to obtain support from Sony. Sony supports burning an iso just like Prassi PrimoCD. Most special options are available from the full-version. There is a large button on the bottom right with the text "Go To Full Application" and that is where you can select the global image option. You can select "Global Image" from the Drive Menu item or use the second full icon from the left on the applicaton bar. For more information on Sony, see www.sonystoreage.support.

Veritas My CD and My CD Pro

I have a copy of My CD Pro but haven't installed it. Since it is based on Prassi's PrimoCD, you would expect it to behave in a similar fashion. You need to go to the full application by choosing one of the button on the bottom right side of the window. You will select a global image and use the drop down arrow to provide the file type options. An iso is one of those choices. For more information see Veritas' My CD web site.

Other CDROM Burners
