I have decided that there are too many movies that deserve a ranking of 1 or 2 out of 10. So, in order to remind me of which ones they were, I am making a list of movies that you should never purchase and only rent when you are terribly bored. There are a number of them and they will be added to the list as I reencounter them again. I really hate renting a movie that I think is so bad that they couldn't pay me to watch it.
11 May 2006 - Another really terrible movie is Gunfighter's Revenge or "Mio West, Il" in Europe. One of the reviews that I read asked if Harvey Keitel would take anything. I didn't think it was that bad but it was not a good waste of 80 or so minutes of your time. David Bowie's western accent was terrible.
1 May 2006 - I have tried to watch a couple of seriously bad movies over the last 4 or 5 days. I saw a deal on Salvador and bought it. I didn't pay very much but it was so bad that they should have paid me to take it off of their hands. I hate it when people in a country that would not say anything in front of a para or military type, mouth off and end up getting killed. They may join the guerillas but they will not mouth off in public. That is deserving of a Darwin Award. In addition, only truly stupid people from the USA use dope in those countries. So, I simply could not buy the script. The wrong brain was obviously in control of the entire production. I can't understand how people like Woods and Belushi would even get involved.
The other movie was Cronicas. Fortunately, I rented it. Unfortunately, this was the second time I rented it. The story revolves around a reporter from Miami traveling to Ecuador to track down the "Monster of Babahoyo". It has the addon of - "It it's On TV, It Must Be The Truth". It was loosely based on the killer known as the "Monster of the Andes". I watch movies to be entertained and I did not enjoy any of it. I didn't know until I read the book by the man charged to find the Green River killer that one of the traits of serial killers is of them having sex with their dead victims. The thought of them returning and wiping off the magots to have sex just makes me shudder. So, shows about serial killers bother me more than others.
21 March 2006 - I tried to watch Spirit Bear and gave up. It was obviously for younger people and it didn't fit my profile.
27 February 2006 - I tried to find "The Weather Man" for 3 days. Then, someone suggested that I ask the return desk at Hastings to see if one had been returned. Unfortunately, one had been returned and I rented it. What a stupid movie. I should have been content to keep looking and just maybe I would have read a reviewer that thought like I do. The reviews at Amazon went from 1-star to 5-stars. I obviously fell on the 1-star end of the ratings.
16 January 2006 - To start out this update is "Grizzly Man". Watching someone work that hard to deserve a Darwin Award is beyond me. I just can't figure out why I purchased it. Next in my list is "Broken Flowers". In this movie Bill Murray plays a part that, as I watched it, I kept hoping it would have a point but that never happens. Mr. and Mrs Smith also came close to being listed. There are 2 or 3 more but they were bad enough that I forgot the names of the movies. I will add them after I walk around to see what is new on the 17th.
14 December 2005 - Last night I watched 2 movies. The first was Wind Runner. It had a kind of lame plot but was intended to be family entertainment. I think it did just that. I was entertained. Then, I made the mistake of watching "The Island". With the exception of the chase scenes, I didn't think it had any redeeming virtues. So, I thought it rated at **. The chase scenes were 10's but the rest of the plot dragged it down to a 2.
A while back, I watched "Blood Trail". It had no redeeming virtues and I couldn't even finish watching it. I give it *. I visited Amazon.com and one of the reviewers wanted to give it a negative rating. I agreed with their assessment.
I also watched "The Dukes of Hazzard". The only pluses were watching Daisy Duke in her short, short, shorts and listening to Willie Nelsen sing.
