30 August 2006 - I have an iPod 60 GB. The last Creative Nomad quit playing properly. I lost audio in one ear or the other and the only upgrade choice was the iPod. I have several playlists. The equivalent of the old play list is now called the "mega-list" because it has 28 albums and iTunes claims that it has 373 songs and will play for 1 day. My current purchase list is my "What's New" web page.
7 May 2006 - I have several new CDs and a couple that I can not find locally. I started out playing "Orgullo de mujer" by Alica Villarreal. I had gotten tired of her solo album "Cuando el corazón se cruza" and started playing just Gracias by Límite. So, this is a resurrection for me. Then, a couple of days later, I found an early release of "No es brujeria" by Ana Bárbara. It wasn't supposed to be released for 4 or 5 days but if someone had it out, who was I to complain. It was not too much longer until I found a copy of Guapa by La Oreja de Van Gogh. It was one of those so many choices but so little time. I cycled through each album but Villarreals album won me heart and soul. It it produced by Joan Sebastián and if the harmonica sounds familiar on "Dos mares" it should because it is Sebastián.
15 February 2006 - I solved the problem on my playlists by adding a playlist for Límite and Bronco. That way I can listen to either and not affect my general playlist.
11 February 2006 - I have been adding Alicia Villarreal onto coral and topaz using iTunes. I like the way my music sounds when I use the iTune program to play it on a computer. Most of the time, I only have 1 system running Windows XP, so, I have to add what ever I want to listen to onto both computers. I was reading some of the reviews on iTunes' music store and the first reviewer stated that he liked Grupo Limite better. After listening to 4-CDs (56 tracks), I have decided that I like "Las 32 Mas Grandes de Grupo Limite" better than "Cuando El Corazon se Cruza" and "Soy lo prohibido". It is 4 am and I will have to switch albums on the Touch tomorrow.
3 February 2006 - Updated - My old play list was destroyed when my Nomad Touch died on 19 December. So, this list may be similar to the old one but it was freshly created. The performers are Alejandro Fernández (DIRECTO Y SIN ESCALAS), Alexandre Pires (Estrella Guia), Alicia Villarreal (Cuando El Corazón Se Cruza), Ana Bárbara (Loca de amar), Arjona (Adentro), Azúcar Moreno (Amen), Bebe (Pafuera Telarañas), Bronco (Por ti), Carlos Vives (El rock de mi pueblo), Elefante (Elefante), Gary Hobbs (14 Super Exitos), Joan Sebastían (En Vivo Desde la Plaza El Progreso de Guadalajara), José Luis Perales (30 Exitos Insuperables (1 of 2)), Juanes (Mi Sangre tour edition), La 5a Estactión (Flores de Alquiler), Los Ketchup (Hijas del Tomate), Los Aterciopelados (Best of Aterciopelados), Los Lonely Boys (Los Lonely Boys [Special Edition] (1 of 2)), Lucero (Mi Destino), Marco Antonio Solís (RAZON DE SOBRA), Maria de Barros (Dança Ma Mi), Mercedes Sosa (30 Años), Myriam Hernández (Huellas), Olga Tañón (Sobrevivir), La Oreja de Van Gogh (Lo que te conte mientras te hacias la dormida), Pilar Montenegro (Desahogo), Pimpinela (20 de Coleccion), Rosario (de mil colores), Sin Bandera (De Viaje), and Thalia (Arrasando).
10 December 2005 - I am going to replace "A corazón abierto" by Alejandro Fernández with "México >> Madrid en directo y sin escalas". His performance In Madrid, Spain was powerful. He had duets with Amaia Montero from "La oreja de Van Gogh", Malú, and Diego "El Cigala".
30 October 2005 - The albums "30 Años de Mercedes Sosa" and "20 de Coleccíon de Pimpinela" were added to the play list. I removed the 2-CD "Acústico" for "30 Años de Mercedes Sosa". There were some songs on Acústico that I didn't particularly like and I like everything on the 30 Years album. Pimpinela sounds like a fusion of a number of artists that I like.
23 October 2005 - I have changed the basis of this web page. The old mp3.com is gone and I have a new play list. I have had a Creative Nomad Zen2 die. Well, it didn't die but I couldn't listen to the left channel. So, it was functionally dead. The Zen Xtra died when it was dropped 4 feet onto a concrete floor. I am now using a Zen Touch 40GB player. I think the iPod is cuter but switching 1000's of tracks from wma or mp3 to aac is not worth the time. The Touch battery can last 24 hours. That is about 2x longer than the iPod's battery. The iPod's interface is not unique because the patent was applied for by Creative before the iPod was even released. I find that cute came at too much of a price.
The Zen Touch will play numerous forms but I only use mp3 and wma. A 40 GB HD will store a lot of wma music. The current play list included the following artists and they are: Alejandro Fernández, Alexandre Pieres, Alicia Villarreal, Ana Bárbara, Azúcar Moreno, Gary Hobbs, Jennifer Peña, Joan Sebastian, Maria de Barros, Lila Downs, Las Ketchup, Marco Antonio Solís, La Oreja de Van Gogh, Olga Tañón, Thalía, Carlos Vives, Lucero, Los Aterciopelados, Mercedes Sosa, Myriam Hernandez, Sin Bandera, Elefante, and Bronco - El Gigante de America.
This list consists of 359 tracks. I typically play them in random mode but it is really easy to switch to linear mode. This list isn't sorted by first name because some have been added later. When they are added later using the PC, they are not sorted. It is really simple to drag tracks into a playlist using a PC.
22 June 2004 - Mp3.com is back. I haven't figured out what we have and of course all of my old favorites are gone.
My list of artists on mp3.com, that I like to listen to, is not that large. Think of it as a bookmark that I can pass to someone on what I like to listen to. Since I seem to turn very short stories into novels, we will start out like that is what I will end up doing. The top spot is El Cholo because he is responsible for getting me to listen to music on mp3.com. He was one of the first 2 CDs that I purchased. I purchased one of his and Ihara's at the same time. As you may notice, the list isn´t in alphabetical order. It is in my order of importance.
Note: I just saw a number of visits to this web page in my Apache access logs. If you got here thinking I have mp3 files available to share, you are at the wrong place. At this moment, I have around 2000+ tracks in mp3vbr form. About 25% are associated with learning Spanish, increasing my vocabulary, and etc. They all originated from owned CDs and are carefully protected from Internet access. I have yet to hear a downloaded mp3 song that was worthy of the effort. They all had noise produced from the cda to mp3 conversion. To hear what I have, you would have to do digital audio extraction and then do the conversion at 311kbs, which is what I call CD quality.
Since this was first written, my jogger started eating batteries and I purchased a Creative Nomad Zen2 Jukebox. The zen can hold around 4000 mp3vbr song tracks and will play for 14 hours on one charging of the battery. I used to have to pick and choose and now my entire collection of música latina is hung off of my waist. The zen has a playing area called "Playing Now" and it typically has around 10 albumns loaded. You can save it as a playlist, which you have to do using a computer on the Apple iPod.
