18 June 2007 - I found Rosana's official site on Myspace. I was hoping that I would find her 30 second sound bites of songs but that didn't happen. If you try to play them on rosana.net, you get a message from Windows Media Player that they are missing.
On 14 June 2007 - I added the album "Rosana". iTunes has reduced the number of albums that you can buy and "Rosana" had the highest ratings. It is a good album to listen to. I was playing the album in the car and thought there was some mistake because all of a sudden she was singing "Mil y Una Noche" as a mariache song. It wan not a strong mariache like you get out of Mexico but it was interesting to listen to.
On 5 April 2006 I discovered a singer that I thought needed a fan web page. This isn't it. As a photographer, the promo shot I used above was the one that I liked the best. It is a classic and classy pose and her eyes just grab a hold of your attention. Her name is Rosana Arbelo, she was born on the Canary Islands, and she is a fantastic singer.
Information about her can be found on Rosana.net. You may not notice but there is little use of "flash" on her web pages, which gets 2-thumbs up from me. I have her built into my choices on "Yahoo Music Engine" settings. She is a playlist on my 60GB iPod. She is playing in my Car. If I had 3-wishes, they would be to be sit on the front row in a concert and listen to her in person, get introduced to her, and to have access to the lyrics. I get at least one. The other 2 are not likely because I hate concerts. The lyrics for her music are available on the album links from the "Disco" web page. Each album page has a heading "ABC" and they are links to the lyrics.
If I met Rosana in one of my favorite vacation spots such as Yellowsone National Park, I would probably offer to guide her to places that I think are important and enjoyable. I even have a get in free card to Yellowstone. I would explain why the sites are important or of interest. I don't understand the facination of most fans. Most artists are simply people that have skills that I find enjoyable. Many of the "stars" are also people that have been caught up in their persona for so long that they are barely educated and may not be able to carry on an intelligent conversation on important topics. So, when you find someone that has majored in musical topics in school, such as Rosana did, and then went on to use those skills in their daily life, you have someone of interest.
I basically don't like her latest video "Quiero" for technical reasons. There is way too much camera movement. It could almost make you motion sick. That doesn't make me not watch it because I like the song.
When Soraya died, I was at a loss as to who was going to replace her. I had just encountered Rosana on Yahoo's Music Engine but hadn't played her music enough to form an opinion. She stood out with my first album of on-demand play. I noticed that her voice was so vibrant on several songs that it almost gave me goosebumps (carne de gallina).
I currently have downloaded Magia and Lunas Rotas from iTunes. I was so frunstrated with how I had to buy her music that I did something I swore that I would never do and that is to buy an album(s) as a download instead of buying a CD. Life is full of compromises. Especially when they sound just fine on your iPod.
I have been tutoring the children of some friends. They needed some work with their arithmetic and English. Their parents are Zapotec's from Oaxaca, Mexico. Children of families born in other countries have major problems when it comes to English. They often need a jumpstart to help them at times. We haven't got around to working on their English but I finally figured out why they were having arithmetic problems. They needed to memorize the 1-10 tables of at least addition and multiplication. I think subtraction fits in there but it hasn't been a problem. When we get around to doing division, it may pop into importance. I work with the kids and then the mother is working with me on my Spanish. On one of the days, she had taught me how to say the ll "juh" sound in castellano and I get into my car to go back to the mall and walk and Llueve started playing. It had the same affect as "Caresse Moi" by Maria de Barros did. I want to sing along and not attract attention. These are mutually exclusive problems.
