Famous 442nd Combat Unit
At
this time, his youngest brother was drafted. His three other brothers
were in the armed forces. Two of them were replacements for the
famous 442nd. My grandfather didn't think that it was fair that he
hadn't been recruited, so he went and asked to be recruited. The
reason he hadn't been drafted yet was because he was classified as
4C- a child of an alien and unfit for service. His brothers'
classification had been changed to 1A- fit for active military
service. After my grandfather asked, his classification was changed
and he was drafted.
When his parents heard that he had been drafted, they asked him
to come back to camp and say good-bye before leaving. On the day he
boarded the train to go back to Poston, he got word that it was
VE-Day. (Victory in Europe) His draft notice was no good and he went
back to camp to see his parents.
