JW Sparrow and Joe Debenedictis
John Sparrow and Joe Debenedictis are life-long musicians, old friends and compatriots. They have performed together as a duo and in various bands for the past decade and have written songs that have been recorded by not only by themselves but many other artists. In live performances their professionalism and musicality have earned the acclaim of audiences and festival promoters alike. They currently have recorded six of their own CDs and contributed to the sound tracks to several film projects.
They have contributed individually to over 30 recording projects by artists such as Kat Eggleston, Hank Kramer, The Wanderers, Two Scoops Moore, Dan Roberts, the Robert Holmes Band, Victory Sings at Sea, Shanghied on the Willamette, The Clement Sisters, Alan Ross, Steve and Kristi Nebel and Lizabeth as well as many others.
The have shared the stage with folk music national treasures Utah Phillips and Rosalee Sorrels, Anne Hills, David Mallett, Tom May and David Rea as well as blues heroes Mark Whitman, Randy Oxford, Kim Archer and jazz giants Jay McShann and Stanley Jordan to name just a few.
Joe hails from Arizona and arrived in Tacoma in 1990. He liked what he heard of music in the NW. His skills both as a drummer and a keyboardist soon had him in demand for recording and live performances. Blind since birth, his work with Michael Johnson prompted that Grammy award winner to comment, "He can hear you think!"
John Sparrow is originally from Oklahoma and has lived in the Pacific NW for the past 20 years. John and Joe have been featured on several compilation recordings such as ÄòFront Row Seat, Live at the Three Rivers Folk Concerts' and both the Victory 20th Anniversary and Victory Sings at Sea CDs.
These guys have written more songs than even they can remember. Some of them are some of the best songs you'll ever get the chance to hear! Their live shows are spontaneous outpourings of music that touches, informs and keeps listeners captivated. Sing Out magazine called them true American balladeers who live up to the billing.
