When I was diagnosed with Dupuytren's contracture, I searched the internet for information. I found several discussion groups frequented by fellow suffers. There is a lot of discussion of different theraputic drugs. Most of the ideas appeared to be in the realm of wishful thinking, for example, it has been suggested that anointing the skin with vitamin E cream would reduce the size of the bands.
The drug Verapam has been studied in similar diseases.
The one chemical approach that apears to have promise is the injection of collagenase into the bands. (Collagenases are the enzymes that break down the native collagen that holds animal tissues together.) There are clinical trials underway, however, FDA approvial is not expected for several years. The method appears logical and simple. Read the results of a study at Stony Brook University here.
I concluded that it will be a long time before there is a generally accepted drug for Dupuytren's disease.
