He sold property Rowan County, North Carolina, September 09, 1806.⁽²⁹⁾ John sold the 150 acres on Toms Creek next to Clement Lanier that he received from the State in Grant 2681 to John Marshall, Sr. of Surry for £50. The deed was witnessed by John Crook, Jr. and Henry Stuart.

He sold property Rowan County, North Carolina, September 23, 1808.⁽³⁰⁾ John sold 123 acres on the waters of Lick Creek to Richard Cox of Iredell for £60. The land was next to the Robert Noblett, Hardy Davis and Leonard Eller. The deed was witnessed by John Marshall, Sr. and William Cox.

He sold property Rowan County, North Carolina, October 29, 1808.⁽³¹⁾ John sold 440 acres on Lick Creek that he had purchased from Michael Ritter to Richard Cox for £200. The land was next to Hardy Davis and Richard Noblett. The deed was witnessed by John Marshal, Sr., John Ball and Henry Stewart.

Mrs Ruth Gillem, one of the most highly respected and probably the oldest woman in Putnam County, died at her home on Martin's Creek in the 18th District. She was 90 years old and the immediate cause of death was cancer of the breast. She was the second wife and widow of Samuel G. Gillem, one of the most prominent of the early settlers of the state. She was the stepmother of Gen. Alvin C. Gillem, distinguished Tennessee Federal General of the Civil War. She had been a devoted member of the Christinan Church for many years. James died February 4, 1917 in Ladonia, Fannin County, Texas, at 69 years of age.⁽⁶⁵⁵⁾ His body was interred in Ladonia, Fannin County, Texas, Ladonia Cemetery.⁽⁶⁵⁶⁾
