Waste Treatment Plant

Vista Engineering is based in Kennewick, WA and primarily performs engineering tasks at the Hanford site. I was hired to fill a specific contract Vista had, to support development of the Operations Research Model (ORM) of the Hanford Waste Treatment Plant (WTP). The prime contractors for the WTP are Bechtel National Incorporated (BNI) and Washington Group International (WGI).

BNI had recently taken over the project, which had begun under British Nuclear Fuels Limited (BNFL). BNFL's departure left the ORM in a precarious state, that needed much attention. I worked with BHI, WGI and other subcontractors to choose a path forward for the ORM.

I developed process information that became codified in the model. The project used Lanner Witness software for the process simulation, and I became acquainted with its use. Witness is a very powerful process automation tool, used primarily where process data is available to be fed back into the model for optimization.

Leak Detection Monitoring and Mitigation Software

I developed custom computer code using MS Visual Basic to enable other Vista staff to distill a collection of datalogger files into a useful subset, in spreadsheet form.

The image at right shows the main screen. Double clicking the image at right enlarges it to full-size. Click this link to see another screen shot, showing how files are selected.

I created and still maintain Vista's web site.
